Marco Polo II
Objectives of the programme Marco Polo II are avoidance of congestion on the roads, reduction of negative effects of freight transport on the environment in the EU countries and enforcement of intermodality which aims at making more effective and sustainable transport system. In order to achieve this goals, the programme supports activities in the area of freight transport, logistics and other relevant markets, including the so-called “motorways of the sea” and measures for avoiding road overload. The programme supports projects in international transport routes. Legal entities from the member states of the programme (EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Croatia) may apply their projects independently or in a consortium composed of two or more subjects. Depending on the activity, from 35% and 50% of the total eligible project costs is financed from the budget of the programme.
The programme is intended for companies that are private or in state property (for example, carriers, shippers, sea and river ports, factories etc.)
The programme supports five types of activities:modal shift actions, catalyst actions, motorways of the sea action, traffic avoidance action), common learning actions.
