ICARUS- Intermodal Connections in Adriatic- Ionian Region to Upgrowth Seamless solutions for passenger

ICARUS project promotes a strategy for intermodal connections in
Adriatic Ionian Region.
The objective is to improve
passengers intermodal transport connections and eases coast – hinterland
sustainable accessibility to promote car-independent lifestyles. Accidents, congestion
and pollution are some of the problems generated from the massive use of private
cars. In some cases, it is the only alternative, in some others it is the
result of a lack of transport services integration, collaboration among
transport providers and integrated information.
ICARUS wants to go past these
problems making a use of innovative technologies to adapt smart mobility in a
digital world. Moreover it aims to activate a behavioral change in mobility,
using the Mobility as a Service, a concept which moves passenger needs from the
transport means to the mobility service.
ICARUS will focus on tests on
harmonization of timetables, availability of car/bike sharing within transport
nodes, way finding through innovative ICT solutions for seamless flow of
information, integrated intelligent multimodal payment systems, dynamic travel
planning and cross border intermodal services. Organizations from
Emilia-Romagna, Abruzzo, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Primorsko Goranska,
Istarka, Sibensko Kninska and Splitsko Dalmatinska will cooperate for a common
vision of sustainable mobility.
ICARUS pursues to achieve its
results thanks to the deployment of 3 thematic areas which will be deployed
jointly: 1)ICT/MaaS, by implementing the Mobility as a Service (MaaS) concept:
citizens should be allowed to get from A to B using different means of transport.
2) Transport services and
Multimodality: the area concerns transport services and facilities to foster
multimodality (as bike stations at the railway stations, e-car rental services,
improved solutions in order to use less the own car and to promote active
mobility thanks to improved bike-train services). Harmonization of timetables
of different public transport means will also represent a key project topic.
3) Actions and strategies for a
behavioural change which complement services development and integration. Actions
concerning transport organization and services must be supported by strategies
acting to stimulate the us of the new services created.
